Seed Mix up: Mistaken Identity

Hi Folks,

Do you see the teeny tiny watermelons (yes, they're watermelons) on those very cute, custom made shelves?

Grandpa (my father, Bob), had planted seeds he thought were cucumber. He planted them in very narrow boxes that hug the side of our garden.

As the season progressed, low and behold, cucs didn't appear but little watemelons. Now they need space. So Granpa built shelves for them. What do you think?

But, since this picture was taken, we've discovered these little watermelons are starting to rot. Maybe they're not happy on these little shelves.

All best, Jess

First Home Grown Watermelon!

Hi Folks!

Check it out! Our first full-size watermelon. It just kinda peacefully and quietly grew all on its own. We gave it the space and time it needed. And then, one day--wow!--here's this big watermelon.

Jess

Japanese Anenome Full Size

Hi Again,

This is a view of the full size of the Japanese anenome--how it looks in its flower bed.
This is really a very stunning and elegant plant.

Japanese Anenome

Hi Friends,

This is the Japanese anenome, a close-up. They proliferate nicely. Elizabeth, I know you were wondering what they look like. So, here you go! Maybe I'll have some extras next spring.

All best,
Jess

Rotting Watermelons

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know why our watermelons are rotting?  They have developed a black surface at one end and then take over the whole thing.  Not all of them are suffering this ailment, so I'd like to know what is causing this to prevent it on the other ones.

They are two different kinds of watermelon.  One is 'sugar babies' and the other is 'orange glow'.  Any ideas?
