I have six blueberry bushes that I bought a few years ago that are just now starting to look bushy. Three of them, however, have never flowered. I thought blueberry bushes would pollinate themselves since the other three are obviously female and produce fruit. I'm not sure what to do with these non-producing bushes now...?
I don't know what to do, so I placed the question to a couple of other gardeners and will let you know when I find out.
ReplyDeleteOK Kiko,
ReplyDeleteHere's what I got from a friend.
"Before you abandon these shy shrubs, try gently trenching around the plant and add some peat moss to the base the roots are in. Blueberry bushes love the extra acid in peat. If you can get them well fed they may blossom which opens up the possibility of being pollinated."
I also heard on WPKN this morning, on a gardening program, that there are many less bees flying around, so planting flowering plants that attract bees would be helpful. I didn't catch the name of the plant they recommended, but I'm sure it can be found in the Internet.
